Graeme Smith on Rohit Sharma’s Struggle in IPL 2022

Former South African captain Graeme Smith feels that Rohit Sharma is not able to give his best in the IPL 2022 due to the pressure of the Indian national team leadership. On the contrary, he has thrown more questions, is Rohit’s performance in the IPL 2022 affected by mental stress which is a matter of consideration.

So far (in five matches) in the ongoing 15th edition of IPL, Rohit Sharma has scored 107 runs at an average of 21.60 with the bat. He is not able to play big innings even after a good start. As a result, Smith has raised the question of whether he is under pressure as the captain of the national team.

With the bat or in the lead, India captain Rohit Sharma is having a bad time. He is suffering from run-scoring in the 15th edition of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Even as a captain, he has yet to win in the current edition. Rohit’s Mumbai Indians have lost all five matches.

In an interview with Cricket.com, he said, “This is the first time Rohit has led Mumbai since becoming India’s white-ball captain. Is that stress affecting the IPL? That is a matter of consideration. ”

With the release of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma became India’s Test captain in February this year. Then his new journey started with the first assignment of the Test series against Sri Lanka at home.

Regarding Rohit, who has just scored 10,000 runs in T20 cricket, Smith said, “He is an important cricketer in the team. If you look at their batting line-up, you will see that there is no great batsman like Rohit. There is also Ishan Kisan, Suryakumar is doing great even after not playing a few matches due to injury. Pollard is their finisher and Bravis is still a young batsman. They have a much stronger batting line-up.

Besides, since Rohit is the opener, Smith thinks that his start has laid the foundation for the team. “Rohit is the main force in the top-order of the team. He gives the team a good start and builds the foundation so that everyone has a chance to play well. When he starts to run, Mumbai will start winning many matches. ”

Meanwhile, Mumbai coach Mahela Jayawardene is not worried about Rohit Sharma’s form in the IPL. “If you see the way he (Rohit) is starting, the way he is hitting, it’s amazing. His timing, he’s getting off to a great start.
