Brendon McCullum Stepped Down as KKR Head Coach IPL 2022
Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has stepped down as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders – KKR in the ongoing IPL 2022. He will step down at the end of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former Kiwi cricketer has already informed the franchise authorities about the matter.
Rumours have been circulating for some time that he could take over as head coach of the England team. McCullum has not yet decided whether he will take charge of the English team after leaving Kolkata. Chris Silverwood was sacked as England’s head coach in February this year. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been looking for a successor to Silverwood ever since.
The Kolkata Knight Riders authorities have not yet officially announced McCullum’s resignation. However, an official of the party confirmed the matter to the Indian media.
“He has assured us that he will no longer be in charge of Kolkata,” he said. He also announced that he was leaving England.
Meanwhile, various media in England are reporting that Brendon McCullum will be the head coach of England’s red ball. The ECB will make an official announcement this week. McCullum’s first assignment to the England team will be the Test series against New Zealand.
The English will play three Tests against the Kiwis at home in June this year. Brendon McCullum is not very experienced in a coaching career. He is going to take charge of a national team for the first time. He has previously coached the IPL and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2022).
